Based in South Africa, The Peaks Foundation is a Non-Profit Company supporting research initiatives through conference organisation, strategic management planning, fund raising and administrative support initiatives
Ralph is the first Director of the Afromontane Research Unit (ARU, Qwaqwa Campus: University of the Free State).
The ARU is located at the foot of the highest mountains in Africa south of Mt Kilimanjaro – the Maloti-Drakensberg. Other than driving a competent, multi-disciplinary mountain research team and international collaborations, Ralph’s personal research focuses on southern African mountain plant diversity and endemism.
Cheryl has been involved in research capacity building for most of her career and completed a master’s in research management. An avid supporter for the continuous improvement of higher education and promoting community development and participation in multi-disciplinary research efforts, she was pivotal in the establishment of the ARU at its inception.
Anton has been involved in ICT for 38 years with specific emphasis on managing research grant funding, compliance and financial systems. He considers himself as the general factotum and prefers just getting things done in the background.
Gill Osler was appointed as alternative director and brings her qualifications as chartered accountant to the table in order to strengthen the Foundation’s best practice conformance and audit accountability. Gill currently heads up the finances of a successful Agri Business and has an incredible capacity to support and help others grow. Exactly the kind of heart required in our quest to support and build a new and inspired research cohort in South Africa.
